Japanese antique
Hakata figurine of the founder of Japanese Tea Ceremony
Sen no Rikyu (1522—1591) a 16th century influential
tea master who perfected the Chanoyu or
Way of Tea.
He is the most well-known—and still revered—historical figure
in tea ceremony. The principles he set forward—harmony,
respect, purity and tranquility are still central to tea
ceremony.
Sen no Rikyu served two historically important
figures, Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi,
eventually being forced to commit ritual suicide - Seppuku
by Hideyoshi.
He sits before a ceramic tea cup dressed in zen style kimono
with dark blue obi belt and dark blue kimono jacket and
with monk's head scarf on his head. Purple silk fabric
for tea ceremony attached to his belt. He slightly
smiles and talked considerably with somebody.
Very good conditional according to age, with no damage
