Japanese Antique doll of a dancing lady, 1900-20's
Absolutely unique and rare wonderfully carved fine Japanese antique doll of late
Meiji or early Taisho era represents a young woman
in expressive dance pose and dressed
with rich silk crepe kimonos with rich hand embroidered
and painted with cherry blossom, pine-trees and palace cart
in the garden motif. Her silk brocaded obi belt tied
as a big bow on her back. Her dancing position is full of
grace and expression : she makes a small step on her one toe and slightly
bends down in her dance as a willow leaning over a brook.
Her wonderful hairdo adorned with tortoiseshell comb
and long hair-pins. The doll's head, arms and feet are carved
from wood and finished with layered gofun (crushed oyster
shell powder). The doll's face then hand painted delicately.
Dimensions: 37 cm / 14,6 inches high
Condition: The doll is in very good condition according
to age with small stain on her neck behind her ear.
